ABOUT YAZIDI LEGAL NETWORK

Yazidi Legal Network (YLN) was founded in 2019. We are group of lawyers, law students and human rights
activists working with the Yazidi community in the Netherlands and else were in Europe. We support the
Yazidi in their struggle to achieve justice and accountability for the crimes committed by ISIS in 2014
through investigation; documentation; training; capacity building and advocacy. Core to our work is
building bridges between the Yazidi community and domestic and international justice mechanisms. See

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Yazidi Legal Network would like to complement their board with an additional two members.

Desirable skills & competencies may include

  • Fluent English

  • Capacity in Dutch and/or Arabic or Kurmanji would be an asset

  • Experience in strategic management of civil society organisations

  • Fundraising experience

  • Experience in investigation or prosecution of international crimes (either in an international or
    domestic jurisdiction)

  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of ISIS in the conflict in Iraq and Syria and their
    genocidal campaign against the Yazidis

  • A board member with well developed writing skills / planning and organisational skills /
    excellent communication skill would be of great assistance to the Yazidi Legal Network at this
    stage in their development.

    Expectations & responsibilities

  • Work with other board members in their oversight and management of the organisation
    operations. This will include finalising a strategic plan for the Yazidi Legal Network and ensuring
    its effective implementation and developing rules of procedure for the board among other things

  • A strong commitment to the Yazidi Legal Network objectives

  • Regular participation in board meetings and commitment to YLN for at least 1 year.

  • One of the positions to be filled will be chair of the board.

There will be up to 10 remote board meetings per year that run for 1.5-2 hours each via online
platform. In person board meetings lasting 1-2 days may be held once per year but for the time
being all meetings are remote due to pandemic concerns.

Januari 2022 and will be treated strictly in confidence. Appointments to the board will be made
during the first quarter of 2022.
